This, well, rant, originated as a more elaborate answer to a comment on an article I left unanswered for over half a year. I wanted to apologise by coming up with a rather exhaustive answer. Turns out I got exhausted before I could finish complaining, so I'll just post what I have right now and will continue ranting at some later stages.
